Hipages review: is it worth it for tradies?

How hipages works for a tradie, what it does well, where it falls short and who it suits. Every fact is cited and dated, mostly from hipages’ own pages and the ACCC.

The short version

  • hipages is a large job marketplace1. You pay for a monthly plan, from $139 to $649 + GST, and spend its credits to accept leads2.
  • Up to 3 tradies can accept each standard lead, and the homeowner can also contact waitlisted ones. You spend the credits when you accept, before you know if you’ve won the job345.
  • You can ask for credits back on a bad lead (wrong details, wrong trade, outside your area). The grounds are about whether a lead is genuine, not whether you win it6.
  • Plans start on a 6-month term and renew for 12 months, and leaving early can cost you the rest of the term78.
  • It suits tradies who respond fast, win their fair share of quotes and will use the job tools. It’s a harder fit if you don’t want to compete for every job or need to stay flexible.

How hipages works for a tradie

Homeowners post jobs on hipages, and when one matches your trade and area it lands in your app as a lead. Each lead has a credit price, set by what hipages calls its “matching engine”11. If you’re among the first 3 tradies to accept it, you spend the credits and get the customer’s contact details straight away5. From there it’s up to you: call, quote and try to win the work.

You pay for this with a monthly plan that includes a set number of credits. hipages states that to get listed you need a valid ABN, a current licence if your trade is licensed, and ID verification12.

It’s a busy platform. hipages says a job is posted every 25 seconds13. hipages Group’s FY26 results put the group at about 36,400 subscription businesses and 2.7 million connections between businesses and households over the year. Those are group figures, covering its Australian and New Zealand businesses together1. So there’s plenty of work moving through it, and plenty of tradies chasing it.

Standard leads go to up to three tradies

hipages is upfront about this. Its membership page says: “Up to 3 businesses can accept a lead and contact the customer.”3 Once 3 have accepted, its terms say later tradies can go on a waitlist, and the homeowner can choose to contact anyone on it4. The homeowner can also get quotes away from hipages. So 3 is the number of businesses that can accept a lead, not a limit on everyone you might be quoting against.

hipages describes being in that first 3 as “low competition”5. In practice, it means:

  • You pay to compete, not to win. Credits come out when you accept the lead, before you’ve quoted5.
  • Others may have the same customer’s number. Up to two other businesses can accept the same lead, and the homeowner may contact waitlisted ones too34.
  • Speed counts. Only the first 3 to accept get the contact details straight away5.

We couldn’t find any independent data on how often tradies win hipages jobs, so we won’t guess at a number. Your own win rate is the figure that decides whether hipages pays for itself.

What it costs, in brief

hipages lists four lead plans, from $139 + GST a month with 155 credits (Starter) to $649 + GST a month with 850 credits (Platinum)2. There’s no set price per lead: the credits a lead takes vary by job and demand, and the price can change until the job is hired911. Unused credits roll over for 1 or 2 months, depending on the plan, and then expire14. hipages says it takes no commission on your jobs10.

Our guide to how much hipages costs a tradie covers GST, top-ups, extras, the cost of the introductory term and a worked example of the cost per job won.

Lead quality and getting credits back

Every lead source sends the odd dud. What matters is what happens when you get one.

hipages’ help centre says you can request a lead review within 7 days of accepting the lead. It reviews the request within 5 days and, in some cases, returns the credits6. The grounds it lists are:

  • the job isn’t as described;
  • it’s the wrong category or skill;
  • the phone number and email are invalid;
  • it’s outside your service area;
  • “Other”.

A lead that meets none of these counts as genuine6. The grounds are about whether the lead is genuine, not whether you win it, so don’t count on credits back when the customer hires someone else. Its terms say returned credits expire on the same terms as the originals15, so use them quickly.

For what review sites are worth: on 7 Nov 2026, hipages rated 3.7 out of 5 from 9,409 reviews on ProductReview16, and had a Trustpilot TrustScore of 3.5 out of 5 from 1,457 reviews17. Both sites mix reviews from homeowners and tradies, and the scores move daily, so treat them as a rough signal only.

Contracts, renewals and cancelling

This is the part to read slowly before you sign. Under hipages’ business terms and membership page:

  • Term. You start on a 6-month introductory term (or a 12-month term, if you choose it from the start), and it then renews for 12 months at a time7.
  • Leaving early. Cancel outside the cooling-off period and you may owe an early termination fee covering the rest of the term8.
  • Renewal reminders. The contract renews automatically, and hipages says it reminds you by email and SMS at least 2 weeks beforehand18.

One piece of history. The ACCC announced in May 2023 that hipages “admitted it likely engaged in misleading or deceptive conduct” from October 2018 to January 2022, by failing to adequately disclose the contract terms that let it automatically renew subscriptions and charge an early termination fee. hipages gave a court-enforceable undertaking. In fairness, the ACCC also said hipages cooperated and added email and SMS reminders before renewals19, and those reminders are in today’s terms18. It’s enforcement history rather than how hipages runs now, but it’s a good reason to diarise your renewal date the day you sign.

What hipages does well

It’s not all fine print. hipages has real strengths, and they’re worth weighing properly.

  • Volume. A lot of jobs go through it, by its own count one every 25 seconds13.
  • A limit on who can accept. Only 3 businesses can accept each standard lead, so you aren’t one of a long list paying for the same lead3. The homeowner can still contact waitlisted businesses4.
  • Verified members. hipages says members need a valid ABN, ID verification and, where the trade is licensed, a current licence12. That helps homeowners trust who turns up, which helps every tradie on the platform.
  • Job tools included. hipages says its plans bundle estimates, quotes, scheduling, invoicing and payments, plus Xero, MYOB and QuickBooks integrations, and they work on jobs that didn’t come from hipages too20.
  • Partner jobs. Members can join partner programs with Bunnings and IKEA, and hipages describes those jobs as exclusive21.
  • No commission. hipages says it doesn’t take a cut of your job earnings10. It also says hipages payments charges a 1.6% processing fee, which you can pass on to the customer22.
  • A written review process. Its help centre spells out the grounds for getting credits back, with set time frames6.

Who hipages suits

Works well when

  • You can get to leads quickly and win against the other businesses that accept them3.
  • You’ll use the quoting, scheduling and invoicing tools anyway20.
  • You’re happy to commit for 6 to 12 months7.
  • You want access to partner jobs from the likes of Bunnings and IKEA21.

Falls short when

  • You’d rather not share each customer with other tradies3.
  • You want to know what a lead costs before you sign up9.
  • You want to be able to stop in any month without a fee8.
  • Work is seasonal and credits might expire before you use them14.

So, is hipages worth it?

For some tradies, yes. hipages is a large platform with useful tools, verified members and a limit of 3 businesses accepting each lead. For a tradie who responds quickly, quotes well and uses the job tools, the monthly plan can pay its way.

The catch is in how you pay. You buy credits up front, spend them before you’ve won anything, share each lead with up to two other businesses (plus any waitlisted ones the homeowner contacts), and sign a term that can be costly to leave early. Whether it’s worth it comes down to your own numbers.

Cost per won job = total platform spend ÷ jobs won from those leads

Add up everything you pay hipages over a few months (subscription, top-ups and extras), divide it by the jobs you win from its leads, and weigh the result against your margin on a typical job before you renew. Our guide to what hipages costs a tradie walks through a worked example.

Before you sign up, ask hipages three things:

  1. What do leads in my trade and area usually cost in credits right now?
  2. Which term am I starting on, and on what date does it renew?
  3. What would the early termination fee be if I left after three months?

If sharing leads is the sticking point, other models are out there. Leads Genie sells exclusive leads: each lead goes to one tradie. The customer can still get other quotes, so winning the job isn’t guaranteed. You can also compare hipages with Airtasker and ServiceSeeking in our comparison guide.

Frequently asked questions

How much does hipages cost a month?

The four lead plans run from $139 to $649 a month plus GST, which is $152.90 to $713.90 a month including GST2. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of credits, from 155 to 850.

How much does a hipages lead cost?

hipages doesn’t publish a price per lead. The credits a lead needs vary by job category, location, job size, and supply and demand9. Track the credits your own leads take, and what you pay in total, to find your real cost.

How many tradies get each hipages lead?

Up to 3 businesses can accept a standard lead. After that, tradies can join a waitlist, and the homeowner can choose to contact them34.

Can I cancel hipages at any time?

Not always without cost. Outside the cooling-off period, cancelling early may mean an early termination fee equal to the subscription fees for the rest of the term8. You can switch off auto-renewal by phone, email or in the app18.
